We caught up with Ses of Blackwork Tattoo Studio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
What inspired you to start?
I wanted to bring a modern, more urban style of tattoo studio, which didn’t exist back at that time in the tattoo industry in the area where I am.
What makes your business stand out from other companies?
Our super friendly and respectful staff not only create awesome tattoos we also create an experience. Barbershop, hair salon energy with tattoo professionalism. We have been here since 1998. Its a family run business. My daughter Nat is also a tattoo artist & piercer & my spouse is the manager & runs the day to day operation.
What has been one of your most memorable customer success stories?
Man there’s been so many being in the game 30+ years. One that really stands out to me was tattooing a dad of a really young client who I used to tattoo as well. Who unfortunately passed away from a Fentanyl overdose & the dad was getting a memorial tattoo honoring his son. He wanted me to do it because he knew I tattooed his son a few times & not only wanted a good memorial tattoo but also wanted to feel that experience his son felt while getting his tattoos. He missed his son so much that this was a way to feel his presence. I talked to him about some of the conversations and experiences I had with his son when he would come in. I was able to give him that as well as an awesome memorial tattoo. Which probably made his tattoo & experience that much more worth cherishing. 💜😢🙏🏼✝️
What advice would you give to your client to prepare before they start working with you?
If you have a vision, I’ll bring it to life. If you only have a picture, I’ll help turn it into something one-of-a-kind. Good tattoos take time. Hydrate, moisturize your skin & show up rested. Bring positive, good vibes & you’ll always get them back
Do you have any exciting plans for the future of your business?
We’re leveling up the Blackwork Studio brand, the experiences, more education for clients, artists & projects that give back. Its bigger than just tattoos – it’s about legacy & impact.
